LPG Gas Safety in the Home

LPG Gas Safety in the Home

It can be difficult to inexpensively heat your home at the best of times, especially when you want to keep safety and security at the top of your list. Choosing gas heating over electric can be a more cost-effective solution for your home as the winter months roll in, reducing those hard to manage electric bills.

You might already be familiar with LPG gas, or even if you have never heard of it, switching to LPG can be a life changing decision. Easy to store and cheaper than oil or solid fuel, LPG is also a safer and cleaner way to hear your home too. Interested in finding out more about LPG as a fuel source for you and your home? Read on to find out more.

What is LPG?

Known as propane, butane and LP gas, LPG gas is one of the world’s best known fuel sources. A combination of two hydrocarbons, LPG gas is ideal for use in a range of commercial appliances and within the home – including barbeques and even patio heaters. You might not know it, but LPG is extracted from the earth too – the same as crude oil and natural gas.

You will also be pleased to know that LPG is a much more energy efficient option for your household, offering a better return and even offering 90 percent efficiency or more if you have a LPG boiler. So, if you thought LP gas was an unsafe and costly alternative then prepare to be pleasantly surprised.

LPG Storage

Unlike oil tanks, which can be prone to leaking, LPG won’t be delivered to your home unless your tank passes a thorough inspection to ensure that it is adequately pressurized and secure. It’s transported in pressurized tanks and is stored in liquid form, before being converted into a gas for use in cookers and central heating.

Even if you are stuck for space, there are a variety of solutions for LP storage, to meet with the size of your home and the land surrounding it. You can also consider underground storage too to fit in with your landscape’s aesthetic.

It must also be mentioned that it’s currently impossible for opportunists to steal your LPG suppy – a very real potential risk if you are still heating your home using oil.

Ease of Use

The one big benefit of choosing LPG gas over alternative fuel sources is its ease of use. It can be used anywhere and anyhow, it is not dependent on pipelines, and can be adapted to suit any transport route and geography. The equipment and appliances needed are readily available and can be used in central heating systems, condensing boilers, cookers, to name but a few.

Off-grid solution

If you live off grid and are looking to change your current energy supply then it can be hard to work out where to start. Don’t rule out LPG gas as an alternative. In fact, it’s very straightforward to switch to LPG if you are off-grid, as you aren’t connected to the main supply. Don’t be swayed by rumours of LPG as a expensive and unsafe fuel solution either – unlike other fuels, it’s in bountiful supply and so prices remain stable.  So, what are you waiting for? Consider LPG gas as great way to heat your home safely and securely.
